The Rape of Lucrece was wildly popular with our reading group. One of our number called it "The best work of literature I've ever read." We had never read it before, and I know of at least one person in the group (me!) who is reading it again. What control! What poetry! What characters! How incredible to read this amazing woman's story and to be heartbroken at her suffering. Truly an impressive work of art.

It was generally agreed that The Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England is a tremendous read (altho it may be a bit long for some readers). There is such detail and immediacy and humor in this book, and we all look forward to reading the plays and poems with this texture in the background.
