St. Louis County Library, HEC Media, and Left Bank Books present Valerie Battle Kienzle, "Ready to Wear: A History of the Footwear and Garment Industries in St. Louis"
Video premiere: Thursday, June 10, 7:00 p.m. on Facebook.com/STLCoLibrary
With its location on the banks of the Mississippi River, St. Louis was a 19th century center of fur trading, cotton and wool distribution, footwear, and clothing production. “Ready to War” is the story of the birth, growth, decline and rebirth of the St. Louis footwear and garment industries. Colorfully weaving historical narrative, personal connection, and local lore, Valerie Battle Kienzle transports the reader to the St. Louis of yesteryear and the surprising fashion-industry hub right in the heart of the Midwest.
