Friday, February 1, 7:30pm
Center for Global Citizenship (Saint Louis University), 3732 West Pine Mall
As the librettist for Opera Theatre's 2019 world premiere Fire Shut Up in My Bones, Kasi Lemmons transformed Charles Blow's memoir into the spellbinding libretto, which — combined with a score from Terence Blanchard — will take the OTSL stage this festival season.
Kasi returns to St. Louis for a special reading group discussion. Come to share your thoughts, questions, and ideas about the book — and to hear from Kasi about the exciting (and sometimes challenging) process of turning a memoir into an opera libretto. The discussion will be moderated by Jonathan Smith, Vice President for Diversity and Community Engagement at Saint Louis University.
Haven't read the book yet? No problem! All are welcome to attend.
It's free to attend, but reservations are encouraged. Get Fire Shut Up in My Bones for 20% off in store and online during the months of January and February.
