Left Bank Books
Left Bank Books presents queer Latinx author and comic writer Gabby Rivera who will sign and discuss her book Juliet Takes a Breath in conversation with St. Louis illustrator Christina "Steenz" Stewart.
A candid, feminist, queer, coming-of-age story, Juliet Takes A Breath centers around the main character, Juliet, a closeted Puerto Rican teenager from the Bronx interning for a white feminist professor in Portland. In a summer bursting with queer brown dance parties, a sexy fling with a motorcycling librarian, and intense explorations of race and identity, Juliet learns what it means to come out—to the world, to her family, to herself.
“Dazzling, funny as hell, poignant, all the things.”—Roxane Gay, author of Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body
Author Gabby Rivera is a self-described Bronx-born queer Latinx babe on a mission to create the wildest, most fun stories ever! Gabby is an absolute star – she is the first Latina to write for Marvel comics and her incredible TED Talk has been viewed over 1 million times!

Steenz is an illustrator from St. Louis, MO. According to her mom, Steenz has only ever answered "an artist" when asked what she wants to be when she grows up. Here we are, years later. Steenz spends a lot of time watching reality TV, eating pizza, working at Lion Forge and drawing comics. She can officially call herself a professional artist. Steenz lives with her fiancé, Keya, and her cat, Marko. Steenz is short for Christina.
