Following the success in the US of Reservoir 13 and The Reservoir Tapes, Jon McGregor was keen to reissue his entire fiction backlist with Catapult. Even the Dogs is the first in this reissue program
Even the Dogs won the 2012 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, and in his 2017 New Yorker profile of McGregor, James Wood described the book as the author’s “early triumph,” calling it “a ferocious book, at once intense and alarmingly unsentimental.”
Following the fates of drug-addicted, alcoholic, or homeless people in a town outside of London, Even the Dogs is hauntingly narrated by a chorus of ghosts, bearing witness to the plight of their own kind - the forgotten and overlooked
Ultimately as hopeful as it is fierce, Even the Dogs is an exhilarating novel that brilliantly showcases McGregor’s visionary storytelling
This new edition features an introduction by Yiyun Li, author of A Thousand Years of Good Prayers and other books
Jon McGregor is based in the UK and is the winner of the International Dublin Literary Award, the Costa Novel Award, the Betty Trask Prize, the Somerset Maugham Award, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters E. M. Forster Award, and has been long-listed three times for the Man Booker Prize, most recently in 2017 for Reservoir 13.
