Hi, I'm Cliff, the not-so-new Children's Specialist here at Left Bank Books. I'll read anything weird or slightly off-putting. I also read A LOT of children's books (obvi). My favorites are ones that make me laugh so hard I cry, or scare me so much I cry, or cry so hard I cry more. I guess I just like crying. Also mysteries!

Absolutely amazing! It's as though John Hughes wrote the Exorcist and set it to the music of my '80s themed dreams.

To simply call this book amazing would be to do it a disservice. It's so much more than that. This book serves as a tribute to all of the young, black, marginalized girls, boys, men and women who've unjustly lost their lives and futures at the hands of a system that refused to see them. With this book Mychal demands that you see them.

I've owned Forest Feast since it was released and it is one of my favorite cookbooks ever. I have now gifted Forest Feast for Kids to my son and it is becoming one of his as well. Not only is it ridiculously delicious; it is also amazingly simple and just about the most gorgeous cookbook I (we) have ever seen. Two (four) thumbs WAY up!

The Minimalist Kitchen: 100 Wholesome Recipes, Essential Tools, and Efficient Techniques (Hardcover)
Next to my cast iron skillet this is the most used thing in my kitchen. I picked up this book thinking i'd pick up a tip or two and look at some pretty pictures. Little did I know this book would make me completely revamp the way I do (almost) EVERYTHING. From meal planning and shopping to the way I organize my fridge and pantry, this book has top to bottom reshaped my culinary life for the better.

Exactly what it say. Simple Cake is a no-frills (okay, SOME frills) cookbook focused on the basics. A book I'd put up against any frill-heavy cookbook on the shelf.

My Own Devices? More like Chicken Soup for the Melancholy Soul. Almost no one can articulate heartbreak as well as Dessa.

Much like love, this book is absurd, hilarious, and above all else heartfelt.

Claire North is not of this world. There is more heart in her pen than in the chest cavity of any person I've met.
