Lucy Jane Bledsoe – The Evolution of Love

Thursday, May 17, 7pm
Left Bank Books

Left Bank Books welcomes award-winning author Lucy Jane Bledsoe, who will sign and discuss her new novel, The Evolution of Love!

A devastating earthquake has just hit the San Francisco Bay Area, cutting off the outside world completely. When Lily decides to fly from Nebraska to California and make the treacherous journey into the Bay Area to find her sister, she knows she's headed for a disaster zone, but nothing prepares her for what she finds. Those who survived and didn’t evacuate are making shelters, running meals programs, rigging their own technologies—and redefining the very meaning of community. A piercing, unforgettable story of hope in the face of crisis, The Evolution of Love asks what it takes for people to come together, what dangers must they fend off in their bid for survival, and what lengths will they go to rebuild home.

"Given our current seemingly endless string of natural disasters, this is a timely story and a compelling one . . . Bledsoe asks us to think about the resilience of love and hate; what our responsibility to each other is; and who we really are, right down to our DNA. Highly recommended." —Karen Joy Fowler, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves

This event is free and open to the public, but proof of purchase of The Evolution of Love from Left Bank Books will be required to enter the signing line.

Reading Without Walls with Gene Luen Yang

Saturday, April 7, 4pm
MICDS, Brauer Hall

Left Bank Books welcomes former National Ambassador for Young People's Literature Gene Luen Yang, who will discuss Reading Without Walls, a nationwide program celebrating reading and diversity!

Former National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Gene Luen Yang calls us all to Read Without Walls, exploring books about characters who look or live differently than you, topics you haven’t discovered, or formats that you haven’t tried. Reading Without Walls promotes diversity and opens readers’ eyes to new ideas and experiences. In this divided time in our nation’s history, Reading Without Walls is an inclusive way to spread appreciation and understanding for others — and to learn new and exciting things.

Reading Without Walls is happening now, and anyone can participate — teachers, librarians, book-sellers, and readers. Just find something new and different to read — and let books open up the world around you. What can YOU do to read without walls?

Gene will also sign books at this event. This event is free and open to the public, but proof of purchase of at least one of Gene's books from Left Bank Books will be required to enter the signing line.
