Venue: Left Bank Books - Central West End Catie Hartsfield’s life changed dramatically when she received the news that her son had fallen 180 feet off a cliff. The Year of the Cicadas is the true story of this mother’s journey and the ripple effects the accident had on her and her family’s life. Join us for a reading from The Year of the Cicadas to be followed with a book signing. A percentage of book sales will be donated to the family Grant Henry, a young man who was in a recent automobile accident and is still in Children's Hospital.

Speakeasy, Read Freely: A St. Louis Indie Bookstore Alliance World Book Night Reception

Venue: Mad Art Gallery Join the St. Louis Indie Bookstore Alliance the night before World Book Night for a reception featuring J.R. Moehringer, author of the 2013 World Book Night selection The Tender Bar and, most recently, Sutton. Moehringer will appear in conversation with novelist Curtis Sittenfeld, acclaimed author of Prep and American Wife. The authors will discuss the importance of literature and fostering a love of reading. Moehringer's Sutton, set in the Prohibition era, inspired this "Speakeasy, Read Freely" theme, and we will have live jazz music and a cash bar at the event. This reception is sponsored by the St. Louis Independent Bookstore Alliance and is free and open to the public. World Book Night Book Givers may also pick up their books from participating bookstores at this event.
