This is a quiet novel, but it occurs in the stunned silence that follows loud events: murders and plane crashes and national catastrophes, as well as those small but equally seismic heartbreaks that happen to us all. Vasquez follows one character's attempt to sort through the dust, and along the way, takes the reader on a journey through the landscape of Colombia after the most violent years of the drug wars, travelling straight past sensationalism and into the painful of heart of the tragedy. Juan Gabriel Vásquez (Bogotá, 1973) es autor de la colección de relatos Los amantes de Todos los Santos y de las novelas Los informantes, Historia secreta de Costaguana, El ruido de las cosas al caer, Las reputaciones y La forma de las ruinas. Ha publicado también una recopilación de ensayos literarios, El arte de la distorsión, y una breve biografía de Joseph Conrad, El hombre de ninguna parte.
