Left Bank Books
Left Bank Books welcomes award-winning author, poet and human rights advocate Ibtisam Barakat, who will sign and discuss her memoir, Balcony on the Moon: Coming of Age in Palestine!
Spanning the years from second grade through high school, Balcony on the Moon is a follow-up Barakat's first memoir, Tasting the Sky, and describes her family's struggle to maintain their identity in Israeli-occupied Palestine, where "we are made to live with no land, no country, no rights, no safety and no respect for our human dignity." Barakat has addressed many national and international audiences as an advocate for human rights, the education of girls and ending racism. She is also the founder of Write Your Life workshops for people of all ages and backgrounds, and has judged the national "Poetry Out Loud" contest for high school students in the U.S.
"A poetic, deeply felt coming-of-age story." —Kirkus Reviews, starred review
