Eight kids, four hens, a parakeet, a dog, and too many squirrels to mention, all within the walls of a 111-year-old house in the Central West End, keep Jeff Fister’s writing delightfully fresh yet always relatable. From the joys of birth to the agony of teenagers slipping over to the “Dark Side,” Fisher recounts interactions with his eight children in tales of trial, error, and success. Along the way, he parallels his experience in raising children with keeping five hens in the back yard, lessons which overlap more significantly than expected in Counting Chickens: Tales of Raising 8 Kids (and 4 Hens) in the City of St. Louis. Meet the author… and the chicken (!) at this event!
