Can you imagine Tamara de Lempicka picking you up on some street in Paris because she wants to paint you naked?! I mean really. That doesn't happen. But, it did.

Rafaela, a young American trying to survive 1920s Paris, gets a huge break whens she becomes Lempicka's most important model. At first, Rafaela just wants to make some cash and get out of prostituting herself, but she falls in love with her painter - a woman so driven, gorgeous, and heartless, that she could never love Rafaela in return.

P.S. Reproductions of Lempicka's work are on display at Five Bistro, a great restaurant on The Hill. Check it out!

One smart, honest, and totally witty coming of age story. Madeleine, Leonard, and Mitchell, recent graduates of Brown University, share their dreams and desires, fears and failures, in a stout novel void of cliches. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has experienced college, and anyone who hasn't, and wants to know what it's all about. Eugenides shows us how we fall in love, why we screw it up, and then, fortunately, how we can reconcile our relationships.

This is the only book that I started rereading immediately after I finished it. Yes, it is that good! I read it fast because the plot was thrilling, but I knew I would have to go back over the text again and again because the book is so well crafted. You'd think that this novel was Towles' tenth book, but it's only his first! Can't wait for the next.

Best book I've read in years. Julian Barnes has mastered his craft in this novel.
