In her beautifully rendered colored pencil and acrylic self-portraits, Su-en Wong uses her attractive young Asian-woman self as a generic yet specific character through which to examine memory, vulnerability, sexuality, power, and the male gaze. On sumptuous, gigantic color fields, her delicately reproduced figure appears in different costumes and situations in an attempt to get at the various stages of life that a girl or woman goes through in her explorations of self.
