We're an independent bookstore, so the pay
is terrible.

Even though the pay is terrible, we love
our staff, so full-time employees receive free health and dental
insurance.

We look for readers who like to talk about
books and like to serve the public. Some bookstore experience is
always nice, some retail experience is almost necessary.

Be ready to lift boxes and boxes and boxes
of books. Be prepared to carry boxes and boxes and boxes of books
up and down stairs.

Short Answer: Why, yes we do!
Long Answer: We take as many
used books as we can. Sometimes our back room overfills so we have
to take the occasional break, so be sure to call (314-367-6731) before you
drop them off.
Our used book buyers, Erin Callier and
Barry Leibman will take a look at your books and contact you to let you
know what we can or cannot take.
Before You Pack Up Your Books:

We are a general bookstore, so we can't
appraise antiques and other treasures.

We generally offer 5% of the cover
price in cash or 10% of the cover price in store credit for each
book.

We do not take westerns, textbooks,
romance novels or encyclopedias

The easiest way for a bookstore to carry a
book is to order it directly from a publisher or from a distributor like
Baker and Taylor or Ingram. Many authors are not represented by
large publishing houses like Random House or Simon and Schuster, though.
If you are just getting started, and are
self-publishing your book or have used a vanity press like Authorhouse,
the first step is to see if a distributor will carry your book.
If your book is not carried by a
publisher or a distributor, fear not - lots of good books got their start
in independent bookstores such as ours. If you think you'd like to

Before you call:
- We can only take a limited number of
books on consignment.
- Your book must be professionally bound
- no spirals or staples.
- Please do not drop in and leave your
book without making an appointment with Daphne.
- We reserve the right to "Just Say No"
to something we don't feel we can sell or does not fit our store.
